Dean has been a college basketball In-game analyst, studio analyst and sideline reporter for the past 11 years. He has broadcast games on ESPN, ESPNU, CBS Sports, Nexstar Media, SEC Network+, ACC Network+, Fox Sports Southeast, and SKY Sports. Having done over 250 men’s and women’s basketball games, he has the unique ability to convey information quickly and accurately. His deep relationships in the industry give him detailed insight for his broadcasts.
Previously, he held various collegiate coaching positions in men’s basketball, all at the Division I level. He was the head men’s basketball coach at James Madison University from 2004-2008. He was an assistant at Georgia Tech from 2000-2004 while playing an integral role in Tech’s successful 2003-04 run to the NCAA National Championship game.
Prior to his tenure at Georgia Tech, he served as an assistant at Virginia Tech, SMU, USC and Drake University. During his coaching career, he successfully recruited or coached 12 players who played in the NBA including Hall of Famer, Chris Bosh. Dean has been a member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) for 35 years.
Dean earned his B.A. in economics at Davidson College. He was a member of the men’s basketball team for four years. Dean participated in the 1986 NCAA men’s basketball tournament and served as the co-captain during his senior year.
He is married to the former Meg Young. The couple has two children, Julia (21) and Kyle (19). Dean is based in Atlanta, Georgia, but works nationally and internationally.
